Luz/Peru

When I was a child,

I spent much time with my grandmother at her house after school and my parents would pick me up in the evening. I would eat the dishes that she made for me, such as dried-potato soup and Matasquita*. I liked to be there, watching cartoons, like Looney tunes, playing with my cousin. I was also mesmerized with the characters in the dramas, Bewitched and I dream of Jennie, for their abilities seemed to realize what I wanted to achieve. Back then, I liked to explore my ability and wanted to create something new.

When I was 9, my grandmother died. I cried when I saw her in the coffin. I saw her mouth opened, which was my delusion, I guess now. After the funeral, I couldn’t sleep for a while, because I felt like there was somebody standing in my room when I closed my eyes.

Matasquita*….stirred beef mixed with diced carrots, potatoes and peas
